The significant place of interest of the town is the building raised in the XIV. century, also called the castle of Palota. It was name after the Turk defeater constable, the famous hero György Thury, who, with a handful os solidiers (barely 500 men succeeded in protecting the castle against pasha Arslan’s army of several thousand. The Turk made the constable, the castle and Várpalota a legend.
Discover in the south-east wing of the Thury castle the rare secular mural paintings on the walls of the palace from the time of king Sigismund. On the one side of the reveal of the sedile a painting depicting a woman, on the other side a painting depicting a man can be seen. A painting of a man can be observed next to the window and the inner walls of the hall are also covered with mural paintings.
